This video is the first episode of a seven-part series exploring Japan’s yokai and how these mysterious beings have evolved through generations. From terrifying monsters to playful characters, yokai continue to capture the imagination of people through stories, art, toys, and films.

The video series was produced to coincide with the exhibition "Yokai Parade: Supernatural Monsters from Japan," which highlights the enduring appeal of yokai through diverse media, including fine-quality replicas of historical artworks. The Japan Foundation is traveling this exhibition worldwide, featuring even more yokai and related cultural treasures.
